What the National Weather Service wrote

There were three separate downed tree reports in the Mount Airy area. One was at the intersection of Rockford Street and Old Highway 601 near Iglesia Misionera Cristo Vive Mount Airy. Another was at the intersection of Lambert Farm Trail and Rockford Street. The last was at the intersection of Rockford Street and Smith Road.

The wider storm

A line of thunderstorms that passed over the mountains earlier in the day reorganized and strengthened to become severe thunderstorms later in the evening in North Carolina. A few notable cells travelled west to east just south of the VA/NC border and brought numerous trees and power lines down. This part of the forecast area had notable deep moisture convergence and CAPE of about 1000-2000 J/kg. Lapse rates were underwhelming at the low level and mid-level, but bulk shear of 30-40 knots allowed sufficient storm organization and intensification to deliver several damaging wind gusts.

Began near Dobson (36.4111, -80.6938).
