Heavy Snow — Northern High Plains, Montana

2024-11-23 · Northern High Plains, Montana

Event narrative

Montana mesonet station Wetzel NE estimated 6 inches snow depth change between the start and end time.

Wider weather episode

A deep upper level low centered just off the Pacific Northwest coast combined with remnants of an atmospheric river to result in a period of snow along western portions of the Hi-Line, including the Northern Rocky Mountain Front. Additionally, this moisture and mild temperatures aloft overran a cold surface airmass across Central Montana and resulted in two periods of freezing rain.
