Event narrative

Snowfall totals of 6 to 12 inches were observed, including 13 inches in Shrewsbury, 7 inches in Brandon with 6 inches in Danby and Sudbury. Higher totals were observed in the mountains.

Wider weather episode

Low pressure moved across southern New England into the Gulf of Maine during the day of November 28th (Thanksgiving). Precipitation began in southern VT shortly before daybreak with rain-snow mixed in the valleys and a wet snow in the higher terrain.

Snowfall totals ranged from a trace to a few inches in the northern Champlain Valley, several inches in northern VT with 6 to 12+ inches in south central and southern VT, especially in the higher terrain.

This occurred during the Thanksgiving holiday which led to numerous vehicle accidents and the heavy, wet nature of the snow led to approximately 10,000 power outages.
