Event narrative

A public report in the town of Kit Carson reported 12 inches of snowfall for the duration of the event, along with four inches of precipitation in the rain gauge. Additional reported snowfall amounts ranged from 1 to 5 inches, with 5 inches of snowfall falling from the start of the event through at least 9:17am MST 15.6 N of Haswell. Another report of 4 inches of snow fell on November 8th alone 14 SSW of Wild Horse. Key impacts: heavy snow and visibility reduction.

Wider weather episode

A prolonged heavy, wet snow event occurred with snow starting during the evening hours on the 5th and continuing through the early morning hours of November 9th. The heaviest snow fell November 6th and November 8th with a period of lighter but still accumulating snow on the 7th. Numerous snow reports of 1-2+ feet were reported across Yuma, Kit Carson and Cheyenne counties with the highest totals across western portions of each county. Interstate 70 was shutdown initially on the 6th before reopening that night and then shutting down again on the 7th and then lasting into the 9th.
