The zone started out October completely in Severe(D2) drought. By the end of the month, the southern half was placed in Extreme(D3) drought and the north remained in Severe(D2) drought.

Wider weather episode

Another month with below normal precipitation brought a larger area of Severe(D2) and Extreme(D3) drought conditions to southern New Mexico in October.
