Event narrative
Below normal rainfall during the latter half of September resulted in Severe Drought (D2) conditions across the far eastern portion of the county with the remainder of the county in Moderate Drought (D1) conditions at the beginning of October. Warmer than normal temperatures and well below normal rainfall resulted in Severe Drought (D2) expanding across the county except the far southwest by the 22nd, which continued through the end of the month. At Eagle River, the rainfall total for the month was only 2.23 inches (normal is 3.55 inches), which was only 63% of normal.
Wider weather episode
Conditions turned drier than normal during the latter half of September. Meanwhile, warm and dry conditions continued through much of October, leading to Severe Drought (D2) across portions of north-central and northeast Wisconsin. The Drought Monitor indicated Severe Drought (D2) conditions were noted north and east of a line from Merrill to Green Bay to Two Creeks. Soaking rains brought relief to the drought-stricken area on the 30th and 31st.
