Wider weather episode
High pressure strengthened over California on December 9 resulting in the continuation of mainly clear skies, light winds and inversion conditions over the San Joaquin Valley. As the high was strengthening during the evening of December 8, areas of dense fog formed in the San Joaquin Valley along portions of the SR 99 and SR 198 corridors which reduced visibility to an eighth of a mile. The fog expanded overnight and prevailed over much of the center of the San Joaquin Valley by sunrise on December 9. The fog lifted into a low cloud deck by late morning and dissipated by early afternoon.
