The mesonet station Monument SWCD and ODOT station OD200 at Picture Gorge recorded below freezing temperatures for 8 to 9 hours the morning of Oct. 18th. Other stations in the John Day Basin also recorded temperatures at or below freezing during the morning of the 18th.

Wider weather episode

Cold air advection behind a upper trough exit resulted in morning temperatures cooling well below freezing across portions of the lower elevations in southeast Washington and northeast Oregon.
