Event narrative

Law enforcement reported limited visibility at the site of an injury accident. A woman was killed and two passengers were injured when their vehicle slammed into a semi on United States Highway 56 at 9:50PM CST east of Lehigh after failing to stop at an intersection with Kansas Highway 15. The dense fog prevented helicopter transport. Emergency management relayed visibility of less than a quarter mile in Hillsboro which is about seven miles east of the incident.

Wider weather episode

A combination of both advection fog and radiation fog led to reduced visibility across portions of south central and southeast Kansas starting in the evening hours of the 14th and lasting into the morning hours of the 15th. The reduction in visibility ranged from a few miles to a quarter mile or less. Unfortunately there was one vehicular accident in Marion County during this reduced visibility which was reported to be less than a quarter of a mile; one person was killed, and two others were injured.
