A low pressure system tracking from the mid-Atlantic States to eastern New England brought a mix of rain and snow to eastern New York on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2024.
Heavy snowfall set up across portions of the southeastern Adirondacks, central Mohawk Valley, Schoharie Valley and eastern Catskills where snowfall amounts between 7 and 14 inches were common. Snowfall amounts between 2 and 8 inches were common elsewhere except across eastern Ulster, Rensselaer, Columbia and Dutchess counties where snowfall amounts were around 2 inches or less, due to rain being the more dominant precipitation type. This snowfall resulted in snow covered and slippery roads impacting Thanksgiving travel.
A Pittsfield woman was killed (indirect) in a single car crash on Route 295 in the Town of Canaan after the driver lost control of the vehicle while driving in slippery conditions caused by a mix of rain and snow, according to local law enforcement.
