Event narrative

Spotter along the waterfront in Haines measured 10 inches of snow by 745am on the 18th and others measured 12 and 13 inches by 8am with snow continuing. Most of this snow had fallen overnight based on ASOS observations at the airport and other spotters noting 3 inches of accumulation late the previous night. Snow continued to fall all day on the 18th with a spotter near Mud Bay noting 16 inches by 630pm and another in town measuring 22.5 inches at 1115pm AKDT. The official COOP storm total was 19.3 inches. Haines Customs measured less than 1 inch from this event.

Wider weather episode

Cold air and overrunning moisture allowed for the first snows of the year for the Northern Inner Channels on the 17th. The cold air then to pushed farther south down Lynn Canal, causing snow for out the road in Juneau.
