Event narrative

The Mendenhall Lake Gauge rose above the moderate flood stage of 10 feet at 715pm AKST on Sunday October 20th, crested at 10.8 feet at 1130pm, and fell below moderate flood stage at 1am AKDT on the 21st. There were reports of trees and debris floating down the river and water into some yards on View Drive. Skaters Cabin Road was closed and impassable along with some damage to the USFS Mendenhall Campground.

Wider weather episode

After a new record flood level occurred on the Mendenhall River due to a Glacial Dam Lake Outburst Flood in August 2024, Suicide Basin refilled with rain through the fall and a second release from the basin occurred with a crest on October 20th.
