Wider weather episode
A deep, positively tilted trough moved through the Deep South towards the Southeast. An associated cold front and line of convection moved into the region, but dissipated once it encountered the Appalachians. Ahead of this front and convection, there was sufficient warm air and moisture advection to trigger some isolated thunderstorms along some weak surface convergence. One of these storms developed into a supercell that produced severe hail near Saluda.
