Event narrative

A landslide was reported at PR-149 in Orocovis, near KM 40.5, the closed business La Bodega de Las Brujas, and the Dona Juana Waterfall.

Wider weather episode

The remnants of an old frontal boundary approached and then crossed the islands on the 28th and 29th as a strong surface high pressure ridge that moved eastward. This pushed bands of low level moisture and brought periods of showers to the northern half of Puerto Rico. During the morning of the 28th, a landslide was reported near the Dona Juana Waterfall in Orocovis. During the 24 hours before the event, nearby stations in Matrullas Lake and Guineo Lake, reported 1.16 and 0.93 in, respectively. Since Christmas Eve, those stations had 1.57 and 1.07 in, respectively.
