Severe drought conditions from November 2024 improved slightly in December across DeKalb County, but severe drought conditions persisted across far southeast portions of the county.
Wider weather episode
As 2024 came to an end, precipitation totals for about the western half of Middle TN finished near to above normal for the year. As such, December 2024 saw drought improvement across this area. However, precipitation deficits continued to grow across southern Middle TN as well as along the Cumberland Plateau. Crossville's end of year precipitation total was 46.94 inches which was nearly 11 inches below normal for the year. This meant that drought conditions persisted or even worsened in this area. By the end of December, about 31 percent of the area was in at least severe drought with about 12 percent of this area in extreme drought.
