Visibility of one eighth of a mile was reported in Merced and visibility below a quarter mile was reported in Madera. Webcams indicated visibility below 1000 feet in Merced and Madera.

Wider weather episode

Skies cleared out and winds diminished following the passage of an upper through during the evening of January 3 allowing for patchy dense fog to form in parts of the San Joaquin Valley. The fog was most noticeable along SR 99 between Merced and Madera where travel was briefly impacted. The fog dissipated and mixed out by late morning on January 4.
