A general 4 to 8 inches of snow fell across northern Franklin county, especially in the higher terrain.

An elongated area of low pressure moved across NY and New England during New Year's Day intensifying into a strong area of low pressure that stalled across Newfoundland on January 2nd and 3rd.

Initially there was a mix of snow and rain across northern NY on New Year's morning with accumulating snow during the afternoon into midday of January 2nd. A widespread 3 to 6 inches fell in the Adirondacks with a trace to few inches in the St. Lawrence and Champlain valleys.
