Event narrative

Light to briefly moderate snow fell in a very narrow band over the central and western portions of the county which totaled 3.5 inches at De Smet. The snow was accompanied by strong northwest winds which gusted as high as 55 mph near Arlington and 48 mph near De Smet and resulted in occasional visibilities less than one mile.

Wider weather episode

An area of low pressure intensified lifting northward across Minnesota into southwestern Ontario and resulted in very strong winds across southeast South Dakota. Some limited moisture wrapped back southward around the area of low pressure and produced a narrow band of light to briefly moderate snowfall during the overnight and early morning hours of November 20 with a small area between 1 and 3.5 inches accumulation. At times of falling snow, the very strong winds gusting from 40 to 65 mph produced some brief visibility less than one mile.
