Thunderstorm outflow winds churned up large waves on Lake Henry after 2000 CST. Indirect fatalities occurred when two persons on flotation devices were overcome by the high wave action and drowned.
A fatality accident occurred approximately two miles west of De Smet, SD along U.S. Highway 14 near mile marker 375. The driver lost control due to icy conditions likely caused by dense fog and freezing temperatures in the area.
Large hail caused extenseive broken windows to both buildings and vehicles, dented many vehicles, and damaged roofs and sidings of homes. Crop damage was also reported, but the amount of the damage could not be determined.
