Event narrative

November began with D2 Severe Drought conditions in place across all of northern Aitkin County. Precipitation during the middle of the month led to the complete removal of D2 Severe Drought with the update on the 19th, leaving D1 Moderate Drought in its place. Precipitation for the month was around 0.5 to 1.5 inches above normal across the area.

Wider weather episode

Drought conditions improved across northeastern Minnesota during the month of November. The month began with D2 Severe Drought across most of the region. Improvement started early with portions of Pine and Carlton counties with the update on the 5th as D2 Severe Drought began to recede. Precipitation during the beginning and middle of the month led to widespread improvement with the update on the 19th which saw further reduction of D2 Severe Drought across portions of Lake, Cook, St. Louis, Itasca, Cass, Crow Wing, Aitkin, Carlton and Pine counties. The reduction trend continued with the final update for the month on the 26th with D2 Severe Drought becoming confined to portions of St. Louis, Cass and Itasca counties. Precipitation for the month was above normal across the region with the greatest departures from normal along the North Shore where upwards of 3 to 5 inches of above normal precipitation fell.
