Event narrative
Winds increased across the Western Arctic Coast during the early morning hours of November 20th, gusting above 60 mph. Peak wind gusts of 64 mph were reported at Point Lay. Alaska DHS and EM, as well open source media reported wind gusts up to 70 mph at Point Hope that knocked out power to 80% of Point Hope and surrounding areas.
Wider weather episode
A low pressure system moved east out of Siberia and across the Chukchi Sea bringing strong and gusty winds, moderate to heavy snow, as well as blizzard conditions to the West Coast, Brooks Range and Arctic Coast.
