Event narrative

The storm began with some light freezing rain late on the 4th, with a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow falling through the morning of the 5th. After a brief break in the afternoon, more snow fell in the evening accompanied by wind gusts as high as 35 mph leading to areas of blowing snow. A total of 4 to 6 inches of snow and sleet fell across the county. As much as 1 inch of this fell in the form of sleet along with up to one quarter of an inch of freezing rain. California reported 5 inches.

Wider weather episode

A potent winter storm brought a mix of wintry precipitation to much of the state. More southerly locations saw significant freezing rain and numerous power outages. Northern locations saw several inches of snow and blowing snow. In between a mix of sleet and snow fell. All areas saw significant travel impacts from the wintry precipitation.
