Winter Storm — Huron, Michigan

2024-12-04 to 2024-12-05 · Huron, Michigan

Event narrative

Heavy snow fell in Huron couny, with the bulk of the snow falling in under 8 hours. Official snow reports of 9 inches were reported in Caseville and 8.2 inches in Bad Axe. Strong winds gusting above 35 mph lead to a significant amount of blowing and drifting snow as well, with severly reduced visibilities.

Wider weather episode

A strong arctic cold front tracked across southeast Michigan during the evening hours of December 4th, leading to numerous snow squalls and peak wind gusts of 40 mph to localized 50+ mph. Snowfall accumulations within these snow showers varied widely across the CWA, but storm totals generally fell within the 1 to 4 inch range. The exception to this was in the Thumb region where a deformation axis/pivot point existed downwind of an ice-free Saginaw Bay. Snowfall reports in Huron County ranged between 8 to 10 inches.
