Event narrative
A steady snow event led to up to four inches of snow in Johnson County. A trained spotter near Neva at roughly 2400 feet of elevation recorded 4 inches of snow, a public report on Iron Mountain in Butler at 2600 feet of elevation also recorded 4 inches of snow. Additionally, the Mountain City CO-OP observer reported 3.1 inches of snow.
Wider weather episode
An upper level shortwave pivoting through the mean flow enhanced a typical northwest flow setup for snow and brought accumulating snow to portions of northeastern Tennessee. Orographic lift contributed to heavy snowfall in the foothills and mountains of East Tennessee.
