Winter Weather — Southeast Randolph, West Virginia

2024-12-01 · Southeast Randolph, West Virginia

Wider weather episode

The month of December opened up with a quick hitting clipper system sweeping through the Ohio Valley into West Virginia. Snow showers moved in from the west during the early morning hours of December 1st and wrapped up before the end of the day. This promoted a swath of light snow accumulations ranging from 1 to 3 inches across the Kanawha Valley into the southern Appalachian mountains. Upslope momentum prompted higher amounts of snow to take place along the eastward slopes of West Virginia and encouraged snow showers to persist longer into the evening before high pressure settled into the area, cutting off moisture fetch from the Great Lakes.
