Event narrative

National Gridded Snowfall Analysis indicated storm totals of 4 to 10 inches at elevations between 3500 and 5000 feet, with up to 24 inches over the higher terrain. Precipitation amounts in the zone included 1.49 inches at Etna, 1.45 inches at Fort Jones, 2.26 inches at Dutch Indy, and 3.00 inches at Scott Mountain near Callahan. Also, south winds were very strong with a peak gust of 58 mph recorded at Etna and 60 mph at Callahan #2.

Wider weather episode

A strong cold front associated with deep low pressure moving toward Vancouver Island brought heavy snow and strong winds to much of southern Oregon and northern California with snow levels around 3500 to 4000 feet. The front was slow-moving with snow levels gradually rising during 11/20/2024.
