Strong south winds ahead of a cold front and the remnants of Rafael in the gulf produced high tides along the coast of Vermilion Parish. The tide level reached 2.88 feet above MHHW at the Freshwater Lock. This produced minor flooding near the lock.
Wider weather episode
A frontal boundary moved into the region and stalled while Tropical Storm Rafael meandered in the gulf. Moisture from the decaying tropical cyclone streamed north across Louisiana. This produced heavy rain over the area that produced flooding.
