Wider weather episode
Cumulative rainfall for 2024 from the start of the year through mid September was generally above average with just a few times dropping down to average. However, from mid September through the entire month of October, virtually no appreciable rain fell. Although October is typically one of the driest local months, usually a few inches of rain fall. This short-term dry spell resulted in the development of severe drought conditions across coastal Mississippi that continued through November. Although a few inches of rain fell with various events, it wasn't enough to improve D2 drought conditions.
