Drought — Northern Jackson County, Mississippi

2024-12-01 to 2024-12-31 · Northern Jackson County, Mississippi

Event narrative

D2 drought conditions began in October continued through all of the month until right at the end of December when several inches of rain fell.

Wider weather episode

Cumulative rainfall for 2024 from the start of the year through mid September was generally above average with just a few times dropping down to average. However, from mid September through the entire month of October, virtually no appreciable rain fell. A few rain events in November and early December helped some, but the amounts were not enough to make up the deficit from average. It wasn't until the end of December that a rain event that dropped around 6 inches of rain brought Jackson County out of D2 drought conditions.
