Event narrative

The eastern half of the zone remained in Extreme(D3) drought and the west in Severe(D2) drought for the entire month. The Cooperative Observer in Antelope Wells had no precipitation which was 1.06 inches below normal.

Wider weather episode

Little to no precipitation fell in December across southern New Mexico. Drought conditions generally remained unchanged for the region during the month with the south in Severe(D2) to Extreme(D3) drought and improving to no drought for portions of northern Otero and eastern Sierra counties.
