Event narrative

The Bear Grass SNOTEL at 4720 ft recorded 15 inches of snowfall between 1500 12/25 and 2000 12/26 with 12 inches first hit at 1200 12/26. Several other SNOTELS at slightly lower elevations were very close to warning criteria.

Wider weather episode

A strong cold frontal boundary followed by an unsettled period of lower snow-level and the arrival of a potent secondary low pressure system brought heavy snow to the Cascades and high winds to the coast.
