Event narrative

Snow Squall. A snow squall moved from the county line south of the Kelly Lake/Hibbing area and moved to the southeast to the County Highway 7 corridor over mainly rural areas. Webcams upstream showed quick reductions in visibility and rapidly accumulating snow on area roadways.

Wider weather episode

A strong cold front moved across northeastern Minnesota during the afternoon of the 17th. A few intense areas of snowfall developed ahead of the front and brought snow squalls that quickly reduced visibility and created quickly accumulating snow on roadways per area DOT webcams.
