Heavy Snow in Coal, Oklahoma

Heavy Snow January 9, 2025 – January 10, 2025 · Coal, Oklahoma

What the National Weather Service wrote

Storm total snowfall accumulation ranged from 8 to 9 inches in the county, with the highest total of 9 inches measured east of the Centrahoma community.

The wider storm

A widespread winter storm (with heavy snowfall) impacted the Southern Plains on the 9th into early morning hours of the 10th. On the synoptic scale, a deep (closed) upper system lifted from northern Mexico into portions of the Southern Plains, leading to expanding areas of light to moderate precipitation during the day on the 9th. While surface temperatures sat a few degrees above freezing prior to snowfall (morning of the 9th), a combination of sub-freezing wet-bulb temperatures and occasionally heavy rates lead to widespread snowfall accumulation across the WFO Norman Forecast area.
