Wider weather episode
A weak shortwave moved across the central Rockies during the day on February 5th. Strong mid and upper level winds were present south of this shortwave over northern NM. Deep daytime mixing from record warm temperatures allowed some of these stronger winds to mix down to the surface. Several stations in the Clayton area, including Clayton Municipal Airpark, observed a period of high wind gusts up to 63 mph from late morning to early afternoon. Winds tapered off gradually during the evening hours.
