A cold front pushed through western North Carolina during the afternoon and evening of the 2nd, bringing an arctic air mass to the area. A wave of low pressure developing along the front during the overnight of the 2nd/3rd resulted in development of light snow across the northern foothills and northwest Piedmont. Total accumulations were generally in the 0.5 to 1.5 inches range, but a few locations saw around 2 inches.
