Wider weather episode
As an area of low pressure moved north across the Ohio Valley, cold air remained to the east of the Alleghenies. This resulted in a period of freezing rain for most of the state, with a long duration mix of freezing rain and sleet across the Blue Ridge. Ice accumulations ranged from a coating to tenth of an inch along the I-95 corridor to a tenth or two along the US-29/US-15 corridor as well as I-81. Across Highland County and the Blue Ridge, higher amounts of a quarter inch to four tenths of an inch were observed.
