Three inches of snow was reported at WJHL in Johnson City. Additionally, two inches of snow was reported elsewhere in Johnson City, and 1.7 inches in Jonesborough and Gray.
Wider weather episode
A shortwave trough, embedded in a larger longwave upper trough, was the lifting source necessary to produce a light snow in the valley and ridges of northeastern Tennessee. Orographic lifting helped produce heavy snow in higher elevations of the mountains of East Tennessee.
