A trained spotter reported 4 inches of snow at 3800 feet in Roan Mountain. The nearby CO-OP observer at slightly lower elevation reported 3 inches of snowfall.
Wider weather episode
A shortwave trough, embedded in a larger longwave upper trough, was the lifting source necessary to produce a light snow in the valley and ridges of northeastern Tennessee. Orographic lifting helped produce heavy snow in higher elevations of the mountains of East Tennessee.
