The NOAA ATDD weather station at Camp Creek Elementary School recorded a peak wind gust of 74 mph at 12:30 PM EST. The period of high wind gusts is estimated based off nearby personal weather stations recording strong winds and wind gusts that at times were at high wind criteria.

Wider weather episode

A midlevel shortwave pivoting through an upper trough helped increase the pressure gradient and increase winds aloft, bringing 50 knots over the mountains. A moderate mountain wave event unfolded, peaking at an unusual time of the day: the afternoon hours. Strong wind gusts were observed in the mountains and prone foothills.
