The public and a coop observer reported snow in excess of 6 inches with this event, including a peak measurement of 7.6 inches in Fort Benton.

Wider weather episode

A moist southwesterly flow aloft overrunning a cold surface airmass across much of the region resulted in a period of moderate to heavy snow January 3rd and 4th. Snow amounts added up to around a foot in several lower elevation locations before the event concluded.
