The AWOS located at the Red Wing Regional Airport recorded an extreme wind chill of -37 degrees.

Wider weather episode

A series of cold fronts brought a frigid Canadian air mass and breezy northwest winds from January 17-21. This resulted in the coldest air for the region in nearly 4 years with temperatures into the -10s to -30s F, and wind chill temperatures between -30 and -50 F from Sunday through Tuesday morning.

The coldest wind chill temperature was at Rusk County Airport with -42F on the morning of January 20.
