The AWOS located at the New Richmond Municipal Airport recorded several hours of extreme wind chills with a minimum recording of -40 degrees.

A series of cold fronts brought a frigid Canadian air mass and breezy northwest winds from January 17-21. This resulted in the coldest air for the region in nearly 4 years with temperatures into the -10s to -30s F, and wind chill temperatures between -30 and -50 F from Sunday through Tuesday morning.
The coldest wind chill temperature was at Rusk County Airport with -42F on the morning of January 20.
