Apparent temperatures as low as -14 degrees were observed within the zone.

Wider weather episode

A very cold modified Arctic airmass settled into much of northern NM January 20th, 2025 into January 21st, 2025. Minimum apparent temperatures in the -10s to -20s were common across much of the region with the lowest apparent temperatures in the -30s to around -40 across the east slopes of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and adjacent northeast highlands. These lowest apparent temperatures were observed just after sunrise on January 21st before apparent and air temperatures gradually warmed up the rest of the day.
