Event narrative

Two to four inches of snow and sleet mix fell across New Hanover county, with an isolated maximum of 4.8 measured in southern Wilmington. Officially measured 2.6 at the NWS Wilmington office. A large portion of Martin Luther King Parkway in Wilmington was closed for almost a day due to icy conditions. There was an increase in vehicle incidents morning of the 23rd due to icy roads per 911. County offices and numerous schools closed. Snow was on the ground for 3 to 4 days, with trace snow depth reported at ILM morning of January 25th.

Wider weather episode

Upper level trough and offshore low pressure combined with cold air already in place due to Arctic high pressure to bring two to six inches of snow and sleet to southeast NC.
