Wind chills as low as -48F were reported in the county.

Cold high pressure was located over the Upper Midwest the night of the 11th into the 12th. This resulted in light winds and excellent radiational cooling conditions allowing overnight lows to plummet. Apparent temperature values in the -20 to -40F range were common across northeastern Minnesota with some areas seeing apparent temperatures as low as -48F during the early morning hours of the 12th when light winds occurred.
