Event narrative

Heavy snow, ranging between 8 and 16 inches in total, fell in the mountains and around 3,000 feet elevation near and west of Pierce. The Grangemont sensor reported rain with a surface temperature of 29 degrees from 2100 to 0600 February 1, which infers that freezing rain fell.

Wider weather episode

Between 0.25 and 1.00 inch of rain fell at lower elevations across north-central Idaho which caused black ice issues Friday night. Heavy snow fell in the mountains with over a foot of accumulation towards the Bitterroot Spine. This event started January 31.
