Coating of snow and glaze of ice from freezing drizzle.
Wider weather episode
An area of surface low pressure tracked across North Carolina with the upper level system across the Northeast. Favorable jet dynamics produced a swath of 4 to 12 inches of snow across the state. The higher amounts of 8 to 12 inches were along a line from Highland County along the I-64 corridor towards King George County where frontogenetic banding set up. Snow rates in this area exceeded 1 inch an hour at times. As the system pulled away during the morning of February 12, light snow mixed with freezing drizzle developed over parts of central VA.
