CoCoRaHS observer measured 5.5 inches of snow KS-RL-80: Riley 0.0 WNW or in Riley. There was a narrow band of heavy snow that fell across parts of Riley County late Monday night February 17th. Light snow continued through much of Tuesday.

Wider weather episode

A prolonged period of snow occurred across northeast Kansas that began around or just after midnight on Tuesday February 18th and lasted through much of the afternoon. The heaviest snow fell during the afternoon across parts of east central and southeast Kansas where 5-8 inches were reported. The majority of north central and northeast Kansas received anywhere from 2 to 4 inches with a few 5 inch reports. Bitterly cold air temperatures in the single digits above zero also combined with north winds of 15 to 25 mph to produce blowing and drifting snow along with wind chills of -10 to -20.
