Event narrative

The Montgomery ASOS reported 0.52 inches of ice and a trained spotter reported 0.31 inches of ice in Monroe. With radar estimates while temperatures were below freezing along with impacts, warning criteria was estimated to be reached across the northern half of the zone. 1 to 2 inches of snow fell across the central and northern portions of the zone before the change to freezing rain. Large branches were reported down in Chester with some scattered outages across north central Orange County.

Wider weather episode

Low pressure lifted northeast out of the Tennessee Valley and tracked just west of the area with the warm front getting up against south and southeastern portions of the region. A light accumulating snow changed to a prolonged period of freezing rain across northern interior sections.
