Event narrative

An accumulating snow occurred during the mid to late evening before mixing with light freezing rain / drizzle during the first half of the overnight. The public reported 3.0 inches in North Caldwell and 3.0 inches in West Orange.

Wider weather episode

A progressive low pressure system emerged out of the Tennessee Valley and quickly moved across the region bringing an accumulating wet snowfall. Most places received an advisory level snowfall with mainly 3 to 4 inches of snow, with some locations getting slightly higher and lower amounts. This was a front end quick thump driven by warm advection snowfall which fell primarily during the evening hours of the 8th. The snow quickly tapered to some light freezing rain and drizzle in spots after the initial thump.
